Meeting Recap | August 5, 2026
Great first conversation
Thanks for the time and the wide-ranging talk. This is a short recap of what we covered and the two directions we are both excited to carry forward.
What we explored
We circled a lot of shared ground: the difference between being visible and being legible, the value of local-first and privacy-minded AI setups, and the ethics of how these tools are trained, including the real Suno case where a slur slipped through the safeguards. We kept coming back to a shared belief that more people, especially those often left out, deserve a real seat in the conversation about AI.
We also found strong overlap in how we think about authenticity in AI-assisted work. The question that matters is who did the thinking, and that connects directly to the two things below.
Where the energy was
AI interpretability
The science of opening the black box, understanding why a model gives the answer it gives, lit up the room. Read through your social-sciences and teaching lenses, it becomes something closer to cultural anthropology. That framing feels genuinely fresh and worth developing together.
A public event with the town
Bringing the community into a live, honest conversation about AI, hearing what real people actually think and gathering that as data, is an opportunity that fits the moment and fits Pittsfield. There is room for both a warm public-facing gathering and a more focused session for local businesses.
Two next steps
-
Brainstorm interpretability together. Take AI interpretability and develop it through your education and social-sciences perspective, aiming toward a shared article or talk.
-
Plan a community AI event. Sketch a public event in the Berkshires that invites the community into the conversation, with local businesses involved.
What I will send over
-
My deep-research document on the current state of AI interpretability, plus the Anthropic video that sparked it.
-
A few AI Daily Brief episodes worth a listen as background.
From there, let us find a time to sit down and shape both threads. Looking forward to it.
